Ruth Ann's Mission Statement

I shared this in worship today - it's my personal mission statement (I don't really like the sound of that, but...) I wrote it originally for my first doctoral seminar, but it's remained important to me for the past 7 years as a statement of my spiritual identity. Every line has a specific scriptural reference. Do you have a mission statement, key Bible verse or quote that provides special direction for your life? What is it?

Standing at the well of my ancestors,

my purpose is

to drink the living water of Jesus Christ,

to celebrate its becoming in me

a spring gushing up to eternal life,

and to pray that rivers of living water

will flow from my believing heart

so that I may offer

at least a cup of cold water

to each thirsty person

and barren desert place I encounter

until justice rolls down,

the deserts all bloom,

and the plain water set aside to purify my life

has become new wine.

Joshua 1:9, because I'm often fearful.
Proverbs 3:5-6, to remind me that God is the one leading me.
Philippians 4:13, because I get tired.
Romans 8:28, because I don't always understand what God is doing in my life and why.

Ak! I forgot Psalm 46:10: "Be still and know that I am God."

Ruth Ann - What a beautiful poem! Thank you for sharing your energy, passion and thoughtfulness with us. My favorites are: Psalm 32:8, " The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you." and Hebrews 11, "Faith is the assurance of things we hope for, the conviction of things we cannot see."
P.S. I'm still interested in a copy of your first sermon, especially your statement about growth.

Mine is by Maya Angelou:
Strong women and strong men
Protect the children, tend the ailing, care for the aged, and in fact, reassure the entire world.

"What wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness?" Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
I saw this on a church billboard years ago and I consider it my first step into spiritual adulthood.
I've always told my sons that I have 3 wishes for them: that they be happy, healthy, and kind, and that each of those three can depend on the other two at any time.
I wish the same for you!
